The Team Signup tool was developed at Wharton using the Documentum
eRoom API. This is just one of several custom course tools that
enhance the basic eRoom platform for courses that use webCafé.
In this public policy course, students can sign up for one of several
team projects, each with a different preestablished topic and due date.
The Roster of Teams (shown above) lists all projects and
provides a join or change teams button with which a student
can sign up. Each team also receives a collaboration folder for the project
that is private to other students not on that team, but accessible
to the instructor and her or his teaching team.
After clicking join or change teams, a student can see which
teams have not yet filled up and are still available for signup. If
a student wants to work with particular friends or colleagues, the
lists of names help guide the selection of the preferred team.
Along with each signup, the access permissions for the collaborative
folder are automatically updated.
